Ideas For DIY Decor

Cupboard Painting Project!

We moved in about two years ago and our trim and cupboards were light maple stain. I replaced all the trim in our upper level because the previous owners had painted all over the trim and it didn’t look very nice. The first color I started with was Rustoleum Aged Gray Chalk paint. It was light and bright. I wanted to get a feel for the color, so I let it sit for a few weeks. I’m glad I did. The color was showing stains and dirty marks very quickly. I decided to add an additional coat of the chalk paint. Then, I added Rustoleum Smoke Glaze Finish. It was a gamble because I have never used glaze prior to this project and it was a new technique.

How the technique works: saturate the entire area with the glaze which is a thin runny liquid (make sure you place some drop cloths under your work area). Let the glaze sit for a few minutes. Then, take a lint free cloth or towel and wipe the liquid off leaving streaks. You can leave more or less of the glaze on depending on how dark you want it to be.

I am happy with how it turned out. Its hard to tell if they get dirty and the glaze is easy to clean. Take a look!

While I was completing this project I wanted something to add for holding our wine bottles. I researched different ideas and wanted to make something that was easier for a beginner. I had some extra stain, 2x4s and a 1×6 laying around and I figured I’d give it a shot. After a couple hours of cutting, glueing and staining, I had this….
